sustainable furniture hire
Our commitment to a greener events industry
The most sustainable choice for events isn’t buying eco-certified furniture, it is not buying furniture at all.
Every piece hired from Furniture on the Move is a piece that does not need to be manufactured for a single occasion and disposed of afterwards. Our rental model is inherently circular: each piece in our catalogue is used multiple times across its lifetime, maintained, repaired and kept in circulation rather than sent to landfill. This means cutting off single-use procurement, post-event disposal and all the unnecessary manufacturing footprint.
This circular model is the foundation of our approach to sustainability, but we want to do more!
As a company we are committed to having a positive effect on our environment and drive change in our industry so we have focused our efforts on four key areas of our business: our products, our operations, our packaging and our green initiatives.
Our products
why our furniture looks good and is good for the planet
Quality
We have always prided ourselves in sourcing premium furniture, built with durability in mind to extend the lifecycle of the product.
We make sure items can be upcycled and repaired to keep the circular economy moving.
Materials
We prioritise eco-friendly materials and consider their environmental impact through their entire life-cycle, from extraction to production and finally to how they are disposed of. This includes luxurious velvets made of 100% PET Yarns, furniture built with repurposed scaffolding, reclaimed metal, railway sleepers and even boatwood.
Suppliers
We work with responsible suppliers that share our ethos and strive to produce quality products, whilst also working to reduce their carbon footprint. We look for suppliers that comply with the latest regulations on timber export, prioritise recycled and recyclable material and improve the energy efficiency of their production chain.
Our operations
Reducing environmental impact in our operations
van fleet
Our delivery fleet meets Euro 6 emissions standards, the strictest currently applied to road vehicles in the UK. We are actively reviewing the transition to electric vehicles as range and infrastructure improve to meet the demands of nationwide 24/7 delivery.
Route optimisation
We manage our logistics with the environment in mind, aiming to reduce our pollution by spending the least amount of time on the road as possible and with the least amount of vans. Our fleet has trackers installed to monitor fuel consumption and driver behaviour and we group deliveries by postcode to minimise the number of trips.
warehouse
Our warehouse operates on LED lighting throughout, significantly reducing energy consumption compared to traditional lighting systems. We continuously review our energy use and operational processes to identify further reductions.
driver training
We offer regular refresher sessions to our drivers and crew to make sure they’re up to date on our recycling policies and best practises when it comes to driving and packing our vans, to ensure we always minimise our impact on the environment.
Load management
We have integrated a load optimisation software in our daily operations.
This ensures vehicles are loaded efficiently to reduce the number of trips required and improve fuel economy and vehicle efficiency.
Packaging
Reducing packaging and waste during delivery
Reusable protective covers
To reduce our reliance on disposable plastics, we have invested in custom-made, reusable protective covers for the vast majority of our inventory, including sofas, chairs, and tables. These are used for every transit and stored at our warehouse, eliminating thousands of meters of single use plastic waste annually.
100% recyclable transit wrap
Where a bespoke item requires additional protection that a standard cover cannot provide, we use a specialized, 100% recyclable shrink wrap.
Closed-loop take back policy
Our crew is trained to remove all transit packaging immediately after installation so that no waste is left behind at your venue. We transport this material back to our warehouse to be processed in our dedicated recycling bins, ensuring that 0% of our transit packaging ends up in a general waste stream or landfill.
Venue cleanliness compliance
For high-profile venues with strict sustainability or fire-safety codes, our "No-Waste-Left-Behind" policy ensures your loading bays and event spaces remain clear and compliant with modern environmental standards.
Green initiatives
Funding environmental projects around the world
We are members of Ecologi, an environmental organisation taking real action against climate change by planting trees across the world and funding carbon offsetting projects “Gold standard certified”. We’re funding the highest standard of climate projects to help accelerate our way to a sustainable future. Take a look at some of our 2026 projects:
Fuel-efficient cookstoves in Uganda
Supporting clean cooking interventions that reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the burning of non-renewable woody biomass and/or charcoal for cooking in Uganda.
Protection of the Matavén forest
Assisting the REDD+ Matavén Project in Eastern Colombia in stopping deforestation, protecting biodiversity, conserving water, and improving the living conditions of Indigenous communities in Matavén.
Agroforestry in kenya
This project will support the planting of 810,000 trees in Kenya. The initiative provides farmers with high-quality, locally appropriate seedlings along with hands-on training on planting techniques and long-term care.
Avoiding methane emissions from landfill in Brazil
The Macaúbas Project aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through two main activities: capturing and flaring methane (CH4) from landfill gas (LFG) and generating electricity from this captured methane.

Charity partnerships
Giving our furniture a second life
Once a piece of furniture reaches the end of its hire life, it goes to someone who needs it, not to landfill.
We have established partnerships with two Bristol-based charities who take our retired furniture and put it to work in their communities. Every sofa, chair and table that leaves our care goes on to fund something meaningful.
These partnerships mean that the lifecycle of every piece in our catalogue ends in a community not in a skip. It is one of the things we are most proud of as a business, and it is a practical demonstration that sustainable business practice and genuine social impact can be the same goal.
Sofa Project
The Sofa Project provides and sells furniture to raise funds for disadvantaged families in Bristol. It also runs a prisoner rehabilitation scheme, giving people rebuilding their lives the opportunity to develop skills and contribute to their community through meaningful work. Our donated furniture helps fund both programmes, meaning a piece that has furnished a Wimbledon hospitality suite or a Goodwood Festival lounge goes on to make a direct difference to a family or an individual who needs it most.
New Life Charity - Bristol Branch
New Life is a national charity supporting disabled children across the UK. We support its Bristol division by donating furniture for them to sell, with all proceeds going directly to fund equipment, support and services for disabled children and their families.
