Environmental sustainability is one of the biggest issues faced in the history of our society, as we try finding a way of balancing a growing worldwide population with limited natural resources. We see this increased Eco awareness in interior design, as manufacturers and consumers alike begin to prioritise materials and designs that have a positive effect on our environment.
Eco-friendly Materials are an important aspect in this design revolution, as we consider their environmental impact thorough their entire life-cycle, from extraction to production and finally to how they are disposed of. Organic materials such as wood and natural fibres or renewable ones like bamboo are more and more prominent in interior and furniture design and are not only changing the industry for the bet ter but also making us feel a deeper connection with nature.
Accepting that our resources are limited means we are now moving away from a single use mentality and towards one of long term sustainability, where objects are built with durability in mind to be recycled and repurposed at the end of their life-cycle. This can be seen in the interior world, where vintage and recycled items have been incorporated creatively in a new setting, giving the space a lived-in feel and the objects a second life.
